REACT digital agriculture webinar

Description

A webinar presenting the interim results of the REACT project is scheduled for Thursday 27 May.

REACT - REsilience and Adaptive CapaciTy in agriculture is a project co-funded under the POR-FESR 2014-2020 programme, which aims to foster social and economic growth in the fields of industrial development, the digital agenda, the environment and innovation.

The REACT project, due to conclude in July 2021, consists in the development of an innovative digital platform serving the agricultural sector which, through the collection and intelligent use of data from multiple sources, makes the management of agricultural practices more efficient and sustainable. The platform is capable of integrating various tools, such as decision support systems (DSS) for irrigation, fertiliser use and crop protection treatments, and is distinguished by its interoperability, which can facilitate its adoption in other contexts as well.

The project was submitted by a business network comprising Radarmeteo, responsible for designing the data collection and integration infrastructure underpinning the platform; Idea-Re, for the integration of satellite data and blockchain, data mining and machine learning technologies; and K-Digitale, for platform development and the integration of modules and advanced features.

The event, taking place as a webinar on Thursday 27 May 2021 from 11:30 to 12:30, aims to present the REACT project to the agricultural world in the broadest sense - companies, farmer cooperatives, insurance companies, crop protection consortia, land reclamation consortia - and to share the interim results achieved to date, while addressing some of the key themes in the ongoing digitalisation of the sector.

WEBINAR PROGRAMME

11:30 | PROJECT PRESENTATION

Alberto Garinei, Full Professor of Mechanical and Thermal Measurements at the Guglielmo Marconi University of Rome and Scientific Director of Idea-Re Srl

11:45 | WEATHER DATA FOR EVERY APPLICATION

Massimo Crespi, Managing Director of Radarmeteo Srl

Meteorological data is not a single repository of information and knowledge - each different application requires its own specific dataset, fit for purpose and representative of its functions.

11:50 | MANAGING REPRESENTATIVE DATA FOR AGRICULTURAL APPLICATIONS

Gianluca Ferrari, Chief Data Analysis Officer at Radarmeteo Srl

A new approach to data will be presented, based on the integration of remote IoT sensing with simulation models through specific reanalysis and post-processing methods (neural networks and artificial intelligence algorithms), to achieve maximum representativeness. This approach, applied to a new data management infrastructure, now enables significant innovations in agricultural applications, both in risk management (support for damage assessment, new insurance instruments and risk assessment) and in operational contexts (support for irrigation and treatment activities).

12:00 | A DATA-DRIVEN APPROACH TO ESTIMATING ACCUMULATION RISK IN AGRICULTURAL INSURANCE

Andrea Marini, Researcher and Data Scientist at Idea-Re Srl

The presentation will address a clustering-based data-driven methodology that enables insurance companies operating in the agricultural sector to estimate the risk arising from adverse weather events.

12:15 | INTEGRATING IoT DEVICES INTO REACT

Loris Francesco Termite, Researcher and Data Scientist at K-Digitale Srl

The potential of the REACT platform in connection with the use of Internet of Things devices in agriculture will be illustrated. Results from a case study on the use of Edge Computing devices in greenhouse agriculture will also be presented.
