Abstract
The paper applies machine learning techniques – artificial neural networks and fuzzy inference systems – to model the temporal behaviour of soil moisture from open-access meteorological and satellite data. The results feed into decision support systems for irrigation planning, with potential for global-scale application thanks to the worldwide coverage of the data used.
