Run-time optimisation of sewer remote control systems using genetic algorithms and multicriteria decision analysis: CSO and energy consumption reduction

Genetic algorithms and multi-criteria analysis to optimize remotely-controlled sewer networks.

Abstract

The paper proposes a real-time optimization method for remotely-controlled sewer regulation systems, applied to managing intense weather events. Through genetic algorithms and short-term water-flow forecasts, the approach simultaneously minimizes combined sewer overflows (CSO) and energy consumption, with savings of up to 32% compared to conventional solutions.
